about
ABOUT THIS TRACK:
The lullaby-like Reasons to Rhyme (with Loes on guitar and bass) metaphorically switches off the lights for the night. Written during the first wave of covid in 2020, it is a sort of “agnostic blessing” aimed both at musicians, who found themselves out of work due to lockdown, and to their audience, who were dealing with anxiety and loneliness. The song aims to say that musicians and listeners can mutually support each other.

LYRICS:
May you always know when to begin
Bass player, don’t rush in
May you find a steady beat and keep it going
Bass player, don’t rush in
May you always know when the song’s about to end
It’s on you to see that everyone gets home safely
May you always have one more song to sing
Lone songsmith, please take care
May you always pack an extra set of strings
Lone songsmith, please take care
May you always know when your batteries run low
It’s on you to see that everyone can sleep soundly
May you always feel like you’re spoken to
Kind stranger, this song’s for you
May my music give you comfort when you’re blue
Kind stranger, this song’s for you
And if you ever feel you’re isolated from the world
Think back on these days when we all were
And I was still with you
And if it ever seems there’s no reason to rhyme
Close your eyes and you will find the music there within you
Joe is a phenomenal mandolinist and songwriter and his voice is so soothing. A musician who keeps it real. Very inspiring to me. Recommended! Loes van Schaijk
I admire Karine as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, activist and human. Difficult to recommend one album in particular, I love all of her work. Loes van Schaijk
