about

ABOUT THIS TRACK:

The listener finds him/herself in an Irish pub with the upbeat song-and-tune-combination Oh My Lovely / The Gun Sermon, both composed by Loes. She plays a pumping jig on guitar played in open C tuning as well as bodhrán (irish drum) as two of her Dutch friends from the band Red Herring, Joram Peeters and Arthur Deighton, recorded various other instruments native to Irish traditional music: fiddle, whistles, and bouzouki.

The song is cheerful, meant to comfort a friend in distress.

lyrics

LYRICS:

Oh my lovely, don't you be ashamed to cry
Oh my lovely, don't go hiding what is true
Better days will come again, like you have seen a few
And I will stand beside you, I'll be right behind you,
My lovely, I will mind you till they do

Like the seafaring folk in the olden days at night
Set out the endless darkness to explore
There are those brave enough to go searching for the light
And those brave enough to stay behind and keep a lookout on the shore

If you're feeling frail and spent and you're lamenting it's too late
That you've either missed your calling or you failed
Remember what you told me once when I was in this state
You can always take the next train when you realize the ship's already sailed
