In Kom op, meid!, a re-lyricised version of Kuule, Mees! by Eeva Talsi of the Estonian band Curly Strings and the first song Loes has ever written in her mother tongue, Loes’s voice is accompanied by nothing but violin (played by Ondra Kozák). Though Loes’ lyrics true to the emotion of the powerful original Estonian version, the topic is slightly different. While the Estonian storyteller expresses being fed-up with her partner’s alcoholism, Loes aims her frustration at herself. She takes the point of view of a partner no longer willing to deal with her bouts of depression. “You don’t need to be a physicist in order to understand this / Girl, if you’re not willing to grow up, you will always stay small.”
